Tapan Mitras abstract style of painting gives a feeling of nostalgia. The artist often goes back to his college days - the vast yellow-green cornfields, the flowing river, cluster of palm trees, the mystique vanishing horizon, the light from the rising and setting sun; all this have had an influence on his paintings. Various shades of a single color have been used in some of his artworks to make a stunning semi-abstract landscape, very pleasing to the eye. The most notable feature of his paintings is his choice and usage of colors which make them truly exceptional.
I use to paint in series. Whenever any thought come to my mind, I wait for some time and then start to paint on that, one after another. This way my current series “Nature the Mystery”. It seems, my Santiniketan days are reflecting - the vast yellow-green corn fields, the Tilas, the Indian red Khoai, the cluster of Palm or Date- Palm trees, the mystique-vanishing horizon, the Pond, the shattering light of the rising or setting Sun, its reflections on the water or simply the Spirit – the essence of these – the Abstract, the Peace of Nature, - the last solace for us.
