Vijay specializes in water colours and acrylics, with a penchant for creating original designs from our daily imagery.
Vijay’s recent series have focussed on Lotuses and Lilies. Both flowers have significant symbolism in Indian mythology, particularly in the context of the journey to enlightenment. In the words of the artist: “The Lotus is in the water but not touching the water (jag me he per jag se pare). The leaves of lotus are called Niranjan, when you put a drop of water on the leaves, you can see that the leaves are not wet. The lotus grows from the inside of the water body, where there are lots of animals’ fish, snakes and turtles – but the lotus is not bothered. It blows in the wind and enjoys its surroundings above water (enlightenment).”
